Fox 2 News is having a blogging event at the Coffee Cartel from 7 to 9, Tuesday night. They're calling it "Blog-o-palooza" (because apparently x-o-palooza isn't totally played yet?). Here is a link to the event and the comments it has generated on the FoxSTL website. Laine and I were gonna go spy on people, but after seeing that, I want no part of it, not even for spying purposes. Scary. How is it ever cool to go to a coffee house with your laptop for the sole purpose of obviously not talking to the people around you, when they are there for the exact same purpose? I'm sorry, I like to be privately snarky, I don't need no backwoods county folk peering over my shoulder, getting HoHo crumbs in my keyboard. Yick.
And what's with the Fox-ification of The Cartel? The Cartel is my back-up coffee house if I choose to make the arduous journey all the way over to the Central West End. When I was a teenager, it was the boy version of the girl coffee house, Mokabe's. I could go there, but I had to be prepared to get a snooty once-over from some drag queen with a beehive higher than the door frame. I've been patient with the flood of trendy straight people at Mokabe's, because change is nice and it's good for business, but damn. The Cartel has pretty lousy coffee, and it's overpriced. If I'm not getting any good happy gay vibes from it, it's essentially worthless to me, apart from its independently owned business status.
